Project Synopsis:
In the path between the genesis of an idea and its final manifestation, many things are considered, attempted, deliberated, accepted and rejected. It’s important to learn from that story, although in the end, all that remains is the final result. Brightwater Wastewater Treatment System has generated information for more than seven years, dedicated to the mission established at the start: Brightwater will help to protect the delicate Puget Sound aquatic ecosystem, as it integrates wastewater treatment, water reclamation and the site’s natural systems within a framework designed to educate the public and sustain nature and our culture. This can be accomplished through the development of an innovative campus that is an amenity for its community and a legacy for the future. With a concept that integrates engineering, architecture, landscape architecture, arts and education, Brightwater will establish a new model for creative, artistic and environmentally intelligent design solutions within the infrastructure of our built world. How this far reaching mission became real will be conveyed in this document. We will focus on the public face of the project – the Environmental Education and Community Center (EECC) – to emphasize Brightwater’s role in promoting environmental stewardship as a way of life in our region. One of our key team members, a group of local educators that evolved into a non-profit to serve the community, always refers to Brightwater as a center for education that also treats wastewater. This perspective permeates Brightwater’s story, as reflected in the arts and education components throughout the project.
